Atelier OFFoff wants to move beyond the two-dimensional screen, opening up the shared space of cinematic experience.
One way we do this is by inviting filmmakers whose practice sit outside predefined categories; filmmakers who work spatially, performatively or across different art forms. Their work will be present in the space for a period of time as something to react to, start from, interact with, circle around or deviate from.
Alongside the work, Atelier OFFoff organises a moment to share practice: not a lecture or a presentation, but an open conversation. The artist talks about how they work and what questions drive them. Others in the room (other makers, curators, anyone curious) can do the same. A space to think together, ask questions, and find out how people orient themselves within the artistic field.

On 04/10 Atelier OFFoff enters into conversation with Magali Coremans about the artistic space as a place where our ways of looking, moving, and being present can be questioned.
In a dialogue between artist and curator, we will share practices, experiences, and references that raise questions around collective attention, shared space and the relational structures that shape how we relate to art, to one another and to the world around us.
The conversation is not conceived as a lecture, but starts from three questions that Magali posed to us, and vice versa.
Participants are invited to reflect together on how (audiovisual) works and their contexts can create conditions for other forms of experience, encounter, and meaning-making, and on how their own practices give shape to these possibilities.
Beforehand, we ask participants to fill in a short form with their own questions. We will bring these into the conversation.
A moment to come together and reflect on how we orient ourselves in relation to what—and who—surrounds us.
Magali’s work-in-progress can be seen at Oud Huys, Kunsthal during the weekends of 25/09–11/10, as part of her ongoing research project Holding Space Between Our Hands.
This work-in-progress takes as its starting point the idea of affordance: the intuitive way in which the living world invites us to perceive and to enter into a relationship with it. How does a visitor become not just a spectator, but part of what emerges?
From Magali’s work, Atelier OFFoff distils three artistic approaches that form the basis for this autumn’s series of events: shifting from representation to relation, interaction, and embracing searching as the only honest position.

Bio
Magali Coremans is a Brussels-based artist working across film, text, photography and installation. Through an intuitive and process-driven approach, she explores the partial nature of perception and the spaces that open up for reflection and dialogue in what remains unresolved or unseen. Themes of care, embodiment and relationality run through her projects, which often take shape through collaboration. At its core, her practice is an ongoing act of attentiveness – to the body, to memory and to the quiet threads that connect people and places.
